UnitedHealthcare uses HealthSafe ID as its single sign-on system. Once you create a HealthSafe ID, you can use the same username and password to access your UHC member account, the UnitedHealthcare app, and other UHC digital tools — so you only need to remember one set of credentials.
Creating Your Account
If you’re a new member or haven’t yet registered online, setting up your account only takes a few minutes. Have your member ID card handy before you begin.1
Go to the activation page
Visit activate.uhc.com in any web browser. This is the official starting point for all new UHC member accounts.
2
Enter your member information
Provide your Member ID (found on your health plan ID card), date of birth, and ZIP code to verify your identity and locate your plan.
3
Create your HealthSafe ID
Choose a unique username and a strong password. You’ll also set up a security question or two-step verification method to keep your account safe.
4
Verify your email address
UHC will send a confirmation link to the email address you provided. Click that link to activate your account and confirm your email for future communications.
5

Return to uhc.com and sign in with your new HealthSafe ID. Your personalized member dashboard will be waiting for you.
What You Can Do in Your Member Account
Once you’re logged in, your dashboard gives you instant access to the most important parts of your health plan. Here’s a look at the key features available to you.View & Download Your ID Cards
Access a digital version of your member ID card at any time. You can display it on your phone at appointments or download a PDF to print at home. No need to wait for a physical card in the mail.
Check Claims Status
See every claim that has been submitted under your plan, track whether it’s processing or finalized, and review how much was paid by UHC versus what you owe.
Review Your Benefits
Explore your plan’s coverage details, including deductible and out-of-pocket maximum progress, copay and coinsurance amounts, and which services require prior authorization.
Find a Doctor or Facility
Search for in-network primary care providers, specialists, urgent care centers, and hospitals near you — helping you avoid surprise out-of-network costs.
Update Your Contact Information
Keep your profile current by updating your mailing address, phone number, or email address so UHC can always reach you with important plan communications.
Set Up Paperless EOBs
Opt in to receive your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements electronically instead of by mail. It’s faster, more secure, and better for the environment.
Managing Your Communication Preferences
Inside your account settings, you have full control over how UHC communicates with you. Navigate to Profile & Settings to choose whether you receive statements, newsletters, and plan documents by email or postal mail.Signing In on the Go
The UnitedHealthcare app (available on iOS and Android) gives you the same core features as the desktop portal, optimized for mobile. Use Face ID or fingerprint login for quick, secure access. Your HealthSafe ID works here too, so there’s nothing extra to set up.If you ever get locked out of your account or forget your HealthSafe ID username, visit the sign-in page and select “Forgot username” or “Forgot password” to recover access through your verified email address.
Keeping Your Account Secure
Because your health account contains sensitive personal and medical information, it’s worth taking a few extra steps to keep it protected:- Use a unique password that you don’t use on other websites.
- Enable two-step verification in your security settings for an added layer of protection.
- Sign out when you’re done, especially on shared or public devices.
- Review your claims regularly — if you see a service you don’t recognize, contact UHC Member Services right away.
